Please let me introduce you to my new YouTube channel;
TEACHING PUPS WITH METZ
I have written a FREE EBOOK that runs along side my YouTube channel. The link to the EBook will be underneath all of my YouTube videos.
It is probably easier to see the pages on a bigger screen like a lap top or tablet where double pages will be shown. If you are using a smaller screen e.g. a mobile phone, the wording can be expanded if required.
Just click or touch the edges or corners of the pages to flip forward or backwards.

I was born and lived in London for many years and now live in beautiful rural Devon which is in the South West of England UK.
I have owned and worked with dogs for over 50 years. I have had packs of dogs including 2 large cross breeds and a terrier but mostly I have had German Shepherds and Bull Terriers (I also had a truly amazing, kind, gentle Hanovarian horse named Ebony for over 20 years until I lost her of old age and at one time I also had over 70 chickens!)
I have studied and taken courses on Canine Breeding, Genetics and Behaviour, attended numerous seminars and been involved in animal rescue both before and when I was Animal Welfare Officer for a London Local Authority where I was Authorised under all Animal Legislation and Environmental Health Legislation.
I went to America and stayed with an Animal Control Officer who was also an aggression specialist, to learn about dog attacks. I also had a "busman's holiday" at an Animal Control Centre to expand my knowledge.
When I moved to Devon I continued studying and after finishing a COAPE course in Canine Behaviour I realised there was a need in the area for a Dog Fun Club so I bought the best agility equipment I could buy and started an "Agility & Fun Club". However, I soon realised that quite a few of the dogs that came to my club were rescues who had behavioural issues and couldn't cope in a club environment.
I decided that the only way to solve this was for me to go out to their home, learn about the dynamics of the household, get to know both owner and dog. I needed to get the dog to love, trust and form a bond with me.

I could then explain my methods to the owner about the use of clicker and my hand signals.
The session was normally between 3 to 5 hours. I found the best way for me was to work with the dog first and then, while it had a rest and play, I would explain more to the owner then work with the dog again. Once I had taught the dog I would then get the owner to stand beside me and "mirror" my actions, as they became more confident they could then take over completely.
Nearly all of the vets (if not all!) in the area recommended me and I was inundated with owners wanting me to provide teaching in their home environment so sadly I had no choice but to close my dog club.
Then one morning I woke with what is belived to be a massive allergic reaction (cause still unknown) it was as if my whole body was on fire, my immune system then went into overdrive and attacked my body expecially my lungs.
I was bedridden on oxygen for months with my oxygen levels dropping to under 70% when I tried to stand up. To save my life I was given months of chemotherapy, steroids and am now on immune suppressant drugs.
I could no longer work with dogs with issues because my immune system was suppressed but it was very clear to me that when I was bedridden I was so helpless I realised if I had an assistance dog to help me at that time it could have supported me to an earlier recovery; and so the seed of an idea was born!
I promised myself that if I ever got strong enough I would get a German Shepherd Pup and teach him or her to be an assistance dog. Although I have permanently damaged lungs I no longer need an assistance dog but it would be great fun to teach a pup but also maybe that would be a way I could help other owners...................and so my new adventure began.
While waiting for this wonderful pup to be born I wrote a FREE EBOOK and started a YouTube Channel and I have uploaded 26 videos so far with more still to be made and I am just in the process of editing them so I can put them all live.
When the pup arrives I intend to video me teaching him or her every day and upload them to my Youtube channel.......... mistakes and all!
(ps I may get a bit breathless in the videos and my hands may go a bit blue but please don't be concerned, I am absolutely fine after 5 minutes rest!)
I am really hoping you will want to come with us on our exciting journey.
